Sam Hopkins is an artist whose work orbits around issues of public space and the negotiation of participatory practice. Recent projects include Slum TV, a grassroots media initiative that he co-founded in 2006, and Urban Mirror CBO, a group of public space activists of which he is an active participant. His work also encompasses more lyrical responses to the city, as can be seen by interventions as part of the Usually4 collective and his upcoming show in Nairobi, sketches. After initially studying of History and Spanish in Edinburgh and Cuba, he proceeded to postgraduate studies in Contemporary Art in Oxford and Weimar. He lives and works in Nairobi.
